What is a Certificate of Incorporation?
A Certificate of Incorporation is issued to a company once it has been registered with Companies House. The Certificate of Incorporation confirms the following details:
• Company Name
• Company Registration Number
• Date of Incorporation / Registration
• Place Registered - England and Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland
If you are opening a Business Bank Account for your company, it is usually recommended that you have a copy of your Certificate of Incorporation.
What is a Certification?
The Certificate of Incorporation will be obtained directly from Companies House, they will issue an original Certificate of Incorporation that will be certified. Companies House will certify the document so that it is recognised as a ‘true document’ that has been obtained from authorities in the UK.
Do I need to Apostille my Certificate of Incorporation?
If the Certificate is not going to be used in the UK, but is going to be used in another country, then it is usually recommended that an Apostille is applied to the Certificate of Incorporation. An Apostille is a form of authentication which is applied to the Certificate so that it can be used in countries other than the UK.
The receiving party (could be an individual, business or government body) should then accept the document, as an official apostille has been affixed to the certificate. This will allow your documents to be used in other countries other than the UK without further evidence or proof required.
