Why have HMRC issued me a penalty?
HMRC can issue a penalty to a company for a number of reasons, including the following:

• Non-filing of your Company Tax Return
• Corporation Tax requirements
• Failure to meet VAT deadlines
• PAYE late payments
• PAYE inaccurate returns
• Failure to notify HMRC of any changes that affect their liability to tax, VAT or other duties
• Many other reasons!

To avoid penalties being issued to your company, you must ensure that your company is always kept up to date with HMRC.

When HMRC issue a penalty they usually provide you with a timescale on how long you have to pay the penalty. If you do not pay the penalty within this timescale then the penalty may increase.

How do I know if I have a penalty?
If you have failed to file any returns with HMRC, your company is more than likely going to be issued with a penalty.

When your company is issued with a penalty, you will usually receive a letter at the Registered Office Address of the company.
The letter will inform you why you have received a penalty and will tell you the total amount of the penalty. If you do not pay the penalty within a certain timescale the penalty for your company will increase.

How long does it take to receive confirmation that my penalty has been paid?
It takes around 5 working days for us to receive confirmation that the penalty has been paid.
